The TM Workbench Window

 

The TM Workbench window is the primary interface for finding, viewing, editing and saving translations with the TM Workbench Add-On.

In this view the active translation unit (selected in RC-WinTrans) is displayed along with a translation unit found in the SDL Trados translation memory (TM).  The Found tab in the right part of the window (see figure below) lists all of the translation units found in the TM according to match value (highest to lowest).

Colored comparison/difference indication: The differences in the source texts as well as in the translation text (found in RC-WinTrans and the active TM) are indicated with colored text to help the user identify and assess these differences.

Menu Commands

The add-on's main menu supplies general TM-related commands such as creating a new SDL Trados TM file (.sdltm) and importing/exporting data from/to a TMX file.  A description of all the menu commands available for a translation memory and/or its translation units appears below.

Window Elements

Translation Memory (TM) Groupbox: Source Edit Field

The source text of a translation unit found in the active TM.  The match value of the source text is displayed by the "Current Result and Match Indicator" (tracking bar) located in the bottom left part of the TM Workbench window.

This edit field can be used to enter a text that you want to search for in the translation memory. Start the search by pressing the "Enter/Return" key.

Translation Memory (TM) Groupbox: Translation Edit Field

A translation unit found in the active translation memory.  The TM Workbench starts searching in the TM as soon as the RC-WinTrans source field is updated by RC-WinTrans.  The results of the search are listed in the Found tab. The best matching translation unit found will be selected.

RC-WinTrans (Active Item) Groupbox: Source Edit Field

Displays the source text of the item currently selected in RC-WinTrans.

The edit field can be used to enter a text that you want to search for in the translation memory.

Start the search by pressing the "Enter/Return" key or use the Find menu command.

The Source and the Translation fields are updated whenever an item is selected in RC-WinTrans.  The TM Workbench starts searching in the TM as soon as the fields are updated by RC-WinTrans.  The results of the search are listed in the Found tab. The best matching translation unit found will be selected.

RC-WinTrans (Active Item) Groupbox: Translation Edit Field

Displays the target text (translation) of the item currently selected in RC-WinTrans.

Found Group Box

–

Shows (in the title of the group box) the number of matching translation units found and the number of the translation unit currently selected.

–

Fuzzy match value result indicator.

Found Tab View

Shows the result of the most recent  translation unit(s) found in the TM.

Messages Tab View

Used to display output, i.e., processing and error messages.

Maintenance Tab View

Lists translation units from the translation memory.  The translation units listed will depend on the find text (or character) entered in the Source or the Translation field.

List all translation units with the Maintenance  |  List All TUs menu command.  The Maintenance menu also provides commands for editing or deleting an existing list entry and for adding a new one.

 

 

Layout Size Adaptation

The TM Workbench window is adjustable.  Use the mouse to change the window's dimensions, the size of the window's left and right panes, and the width of the columns in the Found tab (see figure above).  The size and position information will be saved and restored the next time the window is opened.
